Pick up and Drop Off
Transportation

Transportation pick/up drop off information is attached.
City side families: The Fall Schedule begins Tuesday, September 8, the first day of school. For our new City side parents, if you are driving please park your car in the visitor parking area of the Harbour Square Buildings just over the hill from where you meet your children. This is a courtesy so please only park for pick up and drop off. Pedestrian and motor vehicles are not allowed along the lane to the east of the
docks. In the Fall, Spring and summer the Island the docks are very busy with visitors. Please be on time to meet your children when the boat docks in the City at approximately 4:25. Young children become very anxious if they cannot see their parents, especially with so many tourists disembarking from the ferry. The ferry dock staff has asked me to remind parents that they are not to board the ferry with their
children. We have boat/bus escorts who will accompany your children.

Island families: We are happy that Allison Webster will continue with the morning supervision of our Island children.

Bicycle/walking or roller blading permission forms must be signed before students can participate in this activity. Students must have a buddy to travel with while biking/walking or roller blading and most importantly wear a helmet. When signing the permission form, please be aware that the TDSB does not provide supervision nor is responsible for children while cycling, walking or roller-blading. Please ask your son/daughter to get a form from Bonnie in the office. ‘

Safe Arrival

I ask your cooperation in helping us with Safe Arrival. Please telephone the school at 393-1910 if your child is not attending on any day (sick or appointment). It is also important for you to telephone the school if you need to change your child’s transportation arrangements. If your child is late and must travel across independent of the supervised time, please contact the school to make arrangements for a bus pick up. Children MUST be 10 years of age to travel alone on the ferry. We understand that children have to return to the city for appointments and we will do our best to accommodate these occasions. The safety of our children is most important.

Ferry Closures/Freeze Overs:

Ferry closures due to inclement weather usually do not happen until the last moment. Please check the Ferry Docks Info. Line 416-392-8194 or the school @ 416-393-1910. If we have advance notice, we will post the information on our web page www.torontoislandschoool.com.

What you need to KNOW:

City Families - For the morning pick up, students must meet Wendy & Gianina(boat/bus supervisors) at our usual spot, the Ferry Compound. Yasmine and David will have their buses parked and ready to board students. You must have your child(ren)at the docks by 8:15. The bus then drives to the Airport at the foot of Bathurst where they will be escorted across the Airport runway to the Island.

If, for some reason, your child misses the 8:15 pick up then you will have to take your child to the Bathurst street entrance to the Island Airport. The only transportation is a City Line Bus (operated by the Parks & Recreation) which carries Islanders back and forth during freeze over. There is no set schedule for these runs and it is also dependent upon regular airport travellers. Porter Airlines gives priority to travellers of their Airline. For this reason, there may be a long wait to board and cross to the Island. The city line bus will drop students off at the end of the road leading to the school and children will walk in to the school. I do not recommend children crossing on their own. You may call the school to notify us that your child has missed the regular school run, but we do not provide additional pick ups.

At the end of the day, city children will be dismissed at 3:30. Parents will pick up their children at the foot of Bay & Queen’s Quay (where they boarded the bus in the morning). Students will return to the city at approximately the same time, but there may be delays depending on the frequency of trips through the airport.

Island Families – Children will be picked up by the City Line Bus at 8:45 a.m. (usual location). Island students will be dismissed at 3:05 and will return home at approximately 3:20.
If you have any further questions, please contact the school. I would ask you to keep this memo so you may refer to it later in the winter, should we need to travel through the airport. Let’s cross our fingers that we don’t have to travel through the airport this year.
